This course is ideal for students preparing for the ASNT NDT Level III Basic examination or those seeking a general understanding of ASNT certification and its methods.
Led by a certified ASNT NDT Level III, this course is tailored to each student’s specific needs, identifying key areas for improvement and providing guidance toward meeting the ASNT NDT Level III Basic exam requirements. The trainer will be present throughout the full course to answer specific student queries.
Prior to and post course attendance, students are expected to undertake a substantial amount of independent study using the study guides and assessment papers, showing an ability to apply the knowledge they have learned.
Passing the ASNT NDT Level III Basic examination is a prerequisite prior to attempting an ASNT NDT Level III Main Method exam.
The course covers:
- Comprehensive review of the ASNT Level III Basic study guide
- Overview of NDT personnel certification programmes, including SNT-TC-1A and ASNT CP-189
- General knowledge of NDT methods at a Level II standard, covering:
- Acoustic emission testing
- Electromagnetic testing and magnetic flux leakage testing
- Leak testing
- Liquid penetrant testing
- Magnetic particle testing
- Neutron radiography
- Radiography (safety, X-ray, and isotope methods)
- Thermal/infrared testing
- Ultrasonic testing
- Visual testing
- Development of the personnel qualification and certification written practice
- Conducting technical performance evaluations
- Materials and processes for NDT technology
- Fabrication and production processes
- Mock assessments to reinforce learning
- Review of practical experience, with opportunities for hands-on training at our facilities if needed
- Support and guidance for completing the ASNT NDT Level III Basic Examination Application form, if required
As this is a preparatory course, there are no formal requirements for attendance. Most candidates complete this training before undertaking extensive self-study in preparation for the exams.
Recommended prerequisites:
- A Level II NDT certification in at least one method
- A good understanding of Product Technology
- Self-study before attending the course
- Candidates can submit their experience log via the ASNT website (not required beforehand – our tutors can provide assistance)

This is a preparatory training course designed to help candidates prepare for the American Society of Non-Destructive Testing (ASNT) NDT Level III Basic examination. Please note that we do not administer the ASNT NDT Level III Basic examination.
Examination Process
- The ASNT NDT Level III Basic examination must be booked directly via the ASNT website and taken at a Pearson Vue examination centre.
- Information on education and experience requirements is available on the ASNT website.
- Given the extensive knowledge required to pass the ASNT NDT Level III Basic exam, we recommend that candidates undertake approximately six months of self-study before sitting the examination.

A 5-day duration is recommended, but the number of days can be adjusted based on individual needs.
