USW and IMechE ETS have signed a MoU with the intention that they will offer students a new route to combined engineering degrees and industry Certified NDT training for the aviation industry.
IMechE Engineering Training Solutions’ International Business Development Manager Richard Dee and University of South Wales Vice Chancellor, Prof Julie Lydon OBE at the 2017 Dubai Air-show.
The signing of the agreement at the 2017 Dubai Air-show opens the gate for students to enhance their studies in Aviation Engineering both at the USW’s new presence at Dubai South, with the first courses beginning in September 2018 and at USW’s South Wales Pontypridd campus.
Dubai South is a planned city of a million people around the new Al Maktoum International Airport. The airport will eventually be the world’s largest, handling an estimated 220 million passengers and 16 million tons of cargo each year.
This year, IMechE ETS launched a training and re-examination centre in Dubai to assist with re-examining up to 3000 individuals that lost their PCN certification and are working with a number of large multinational organisations such as Intertek to address the challenges faced by technicians.
