Philip Raw

He/Him | Based in Sheffield.

Philip, known to many as “Phil”, is a Level 3 Services Consultant, Trainer, and Examiner at Argyll Ruane, providing specialist NDT support to both contracted and non-contracted clients in the UK and overseas. His role includes delivering employer-based certification scheme training and examinations, particularly those aligned to SNT-TC-1A and aerospace EN 4179 / NAS 410 standards. He is responsible for developing examination questions and marking across employer-based and PCN schemes.

Phil began his career in industry in 1986 and has since built extensive experience across rolling mills, foundries, and forging environments, progressing from metallurgical technician to Quality Assurance Engineer. His long-standing expertise, particularly at Level 3 across multiple methods, allows him to support safety-critical inspection work with authority, precision, and real-world understanding. What Phil values most is the variety of work and the opportunity to support high-integrity inspection across diverse industries and locations.

NDT is a safety-critical activity – do it right every time, lives depend on it.

Outside of work

Outside of work, Phil has a strong interest in science, music, and sport. He enjoys attending live events such as Tramlines music festival, and makes the most of Sheffield’s cultural scene, while also finding time to relax with reading, listening to podcasts, and photography using his Canon R7 camera. • Food, drink and films: Hot spicy curry, a good beer, and the Jason Bourne films
• Music: Rock music, including Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden, Nickelback, and The Reytons
• Sport: Sheffield Wednesday season ticket holder and annual England cricket Test matches
• Downtime: Reading, theatre, science-based podcasts, and photography using a Canon R7
