Supporting the delivery of NDT training and PCN examinations in Lagos, Nigeria

Earlier this year, our team supported the delivery of NDT training and PCN examinations in Lagos, Nigeria, to help meet the demand for highly skilled technicians within the region.

Working in collaboration with Odera Training Academy, our NDT Tutors, Kyle Duncan and Stewart Gray, delivered Ultrasonic Testing of welds (3.1 and 3.2) and Radiographic Interpretation of welds (light and dense metals) Level 2 courses in preparation for examinations to the PCN (ISO 9712) certification scheme.

Being experienced professionals and holding certifications from alternative NDT certification schemes, candidates made the course particularly engaging for both Tutors. With years of knowledge and experience, Kyle and Stewart were able to adapt their approach based on the experience and knowledge of the candidates, incorporating case studies and examples to enrich the learning experience.

Candidates were provided with top-quality equipment and specimens following an investment by Odera Training Academy in new training and examination specimens from Sonaspection and a fleet of Sonatest waves and DC70s for the ultrasonic course.

Improving industry standards

The limited accessibility to NDT courses aligning with ISO 9712 certification in Nigeria has been a long-standing challenge, and establishing these programmes represents significant progress in meeting industry demands in the region.

Odera Group Managing Director, Chibuzor Okoh, is a key figure in the Nigerian NDT community and founded Odera Training Academy to enhance local training opportunities. The collaboration with Argyll Ruane aimed to improve the quality and accessibility of NDT training and certification within the region.

The courses brought 40 new PCN certifications to the region. Delivering this work package to enthusiastic students who valued the opportunity was incredibly fulfilling. By introducing high-quality training and examinations in line with an internationally recognised certification scheme in Nigeria, the collaboration helps meet the demand for highly skilled technicians. It improves overall industry standards within the region.
