IMechE Argyll Ruane has conducted PCN exams “online” for the first time anywhere under BINDT rules at their exam centre in Sheffield. Overseeing this historic occasion was IMechE Argyll Ruane’s Chief Examiner, Craig Hobson, who commented “Although for a period of time candidates still have a choice between laptops and paper, we are hoping that all theory papers will be attempted online by the end of September.”

PCN were also present and they were delighted that everything went as well as it did. Initial feedback from the students has also been positive and we will look to share their experience in a future article.

Online examinations are just another step IMechE Argyll Ruane are taking to help revolutionise the way we deliver both our training and examinations. We are constantly looking at ways in which we can improve our customer experience, with further digital innovations to be launched throughout the year.

BINDT said, “We are extremely pleased with the success of the first live, online examinations. The project has been a great learning curve for BINDT. We have had a number of staff working on the project and since it was taken on by Arthur Jones (PCN Examinations Co-ordinator) it has developed remarkably. Special thanks to Craig Hobson and his staff for their support and dedication to assisting with this project. We believe this an improvement to the PCN scheme which will strengthen examination content and security.”

Chris Kirby, General Manager at IMechE Argyll Ruane, said “I am delighted that the first PCN online exams went so smoothly. They provide a better experience for candidates as well as improve robustness and efficiency. In the future online exams will also bring significant benefits for our training partners in the UK and internationally.”
