Representatives from the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association visited our Sheffield training centre this week to raise awareness of the important work they do helping people with sight loss to live actively, independently, and well within our local community.

Employees and students had the pleasure of meeting their guide dogs in training and support dogs Bruce, Isha, Jake, Peter, and Lionel, whilst learning about the opportunities available to support the organisation.

Volunteer opportunities

There are a variety of roles that you can get involved with, whether you can give a minute, an hour, or a lifetime. You can work directly with their dogs or with people who are visually impaired, support raising awareness of their services, organising events and much more.

Urgent appeal for fosterer volunteers

Guide Dogs recently issued an urgent appeal for Fosterer volunteers in the Sheffield and Rotherham area who can assist in transporting guide dogs in training to and from their new Sheffield training centre, which recently opened on the Sheffield Business Park (2 Europa Court).

Fosterers would temporarily care for one of their training dogs for a few months at a time, with all associated costs covered by Guide Dogs.  Their responsibilities would include dropping off and picking up the dog from training sessions until they’re ready to become a life-changing guide for someone with sight loss.

With busy training sessions when at school, these guide dogs will need somewhere to wind down and have a chance to enjoy off lead exercise at weekends.

It is the perfect opportunity for people who work 9-5 and don’t have the time to commit to full time dog ownership.

It was a great opportunity for our employees and students to learn more about the great work Guide Dogs do for our community and meet the guide dogs of the future!
