Nathan Bate

Based in Sheffield

Nathan – known as “The Chief” to colleagues – is the Chief Examiner at Argyll Ruane, responsible for the technical and quality requirements of the PCN examination department. His role includes administering, invigilating, and grading examinations while ensuring full compliance with PCN requirements. He also operates as an NDT Level 3 consultant for multiple companies as part of the Level 3 Services department.

With 15 years of experience progressing from trainee to NDT Engineer, Nathan brings extensive product and process knowledge across rail maintenance, repair and overhaul, welding and fabrication, manufacturing, and in-service inspection. He is particularly experienced in the qualification and certification of NDT personnel and is driven by maintaining the highest standards of technical integrity. Nathan values Argyll Ruane’s commitment to professionalism and excellence across training, examination, and consultancy services, and firmly believes the organisation sets the benchmark within the NDT industry.

Outside of work

Outside of work, Nathan enjoys spending time with his family and keeping active. He is passionate about motorbikes and enjoys riding whenever possible, alongside trips to National Trust locations and family camping. Fitness and the gym are also part of his routine. A few favourites:
