Hi Tony, could you tell me how you got into the NDT world and became an instructor?
Well, I first started out working as a metallurgist specifically in castings as it interested me. I then became a physics teacher for 20 years until I came across Argyll Ruane and realised I could combine the two things I enjoy. I’ve been doing it ever since.
Which areas of NDT do you cover and how long have you worked for Argyll Ruane?
I’m a PCN Level 2 instructor and I do Mag (Magnetic Particle Testing), Pen (Liquid Penetrant Testing), UT (Ultrasonic Testing) and ET (Eddy Current Testing). I’ve worked here for about 7 years.
What do you like about teaching?
For me, it’s hard to explain but I like to see the light bulb moment. Sometimes you get a student that you can see struggling in the class. I like to try and give them alternative ways to understand and eventually, the light bulb turns on and it’s so great to see.
I also really like the variety of students we get from so many industries and the different personalities I come across every day.
