Last month our Level 3 Consultant, Trainer and Examiner, Michael Mullins, celebrated an impressive 20-years of service at Argyll Ruane.

His journey in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) reflects his dedication, expertise, and passion for the industry. Over the years, Michael has contributed to the company’s growth and played a key role in shaping the NDT sector.

Michael’s journey from certification to consultancy

Michael began his NDT career at Cameron Iron Works in Leeds, gaining his Level 2 certifications while working with CNC machinery. His determination led him to Noel Village Steel Founders, where he gained his Level 3 qualifications, paving the way for his Level 3 Consultant role at Argyll Ruane in 2005. Today, Michael balances consultancy work with supporting the training department, delivering courses and mentoring the next generation of NDT professionals.

Michael has worked alongside many talented individuals who have shaped his career and credits colleagues like Bryan Ravenshear, David Griffin, Phil Raw, and Andrew Fox for their guidance and influence.

The diverse world of NDT

One of the things Michael loves most about working in NDT is the variety of work he is involved in. From consulting and interacting with clients to training students and witnessing their growth, the job never gets monotonous.

A memorable training experience

Among his many experiences, one memorable moment was delivering ultrasonic testing and magnetic particle testing courses in Cameroon, where he had the privilege of working with students from diverse backgrounds, including two local villagers (Nsami Roland and Semeye Valery). One evening while walking around the village, Michael stumbled upon these students studying their textbooks by the side of the road, determined to pass their exams and improve their futures.
